Van Basten, Marco (1964 -), Dutch football player, center forward, best player and top scorer in the UEFA European Nations 1988.

Marco Van Basten was born in Utrecht. He began his career at Ajax Amsterdam at the age of seventeen years, and won the European Cup Winners Cup clubs in 1987. In 1988, he transferred to AC Milan of Franco Baresi, with whom he won three Italian championships (1988, 1992 and 1993), two European Cups Champion Clubs' (in 1989, scoring two goals in the final, and 1990) and two Intercontinental Cups (1989 and 1990). Marco Van Basten was elected European Footballer of three times (1988, 1989 and 1992). He played a total of 279 games (146 in Italy) and scored 218 goals (including 90 in Italy) in the first division. He was selected 58 times and scored 25 goals for the team of the Netherlands, with whom he won the European Nations Championship in 1988, scoring one goal in the final, and participated in the World Cup in 1990, eliminated knockout round by the eventual winner, the Federal Republic of Germany Lothar Matthaus.
