Born in Pointe-à-Pitre (Guadeloupe), Lilian Thuram began his professional career at AS Monaco in 1990 and plays its first game of First Division (D1) of the Championship of France next year. Alongside Emmanuel Petit in particular, and Thierry Henry, Fabien Barthez and David Trezeguet, it is fast becoming one of the best French defenders. His qualities of rigor and precision in the defensive gesture often decisive, associated with a condition and an impressive physical power, earned him many solicitations.

After five seasons at AS Monaco, Lilian Thuram opted for a foreign club in 1996 and signed a contract for training Italian of Parma AC, and he intends to give new impetus and an international dimension to his career. Lilian Thuram has called for the first time for France in August 1994 during a match against the Czech Republic. In 1996, selected by Aime Jacquet, he competed in the European Nations Championship (Euro) taking place in England, France was eliminated in the semifinals.
